I've been reading a lot of the posts here on the site and feel everyone (without exception) is sensible and level-headed enough to be associated with. ...Yes, even on-line! You never know who's lurking around these days :eek: NB: by that I mean Big Brother (...unfortunately, not the one with Davina on :)).

Right, about me. Male, very early forties. Did a few years in the army (grunt) in the mid to late eighties. Have been a member of two gun clubs and used to hold a Part 1 FAC. I'm a keen outdoorsman and experienced hillwalker. I'm educated only to Diploma level (an equivalent qual in which I had to sit exams). I'm well travelled and a few years ago back-packed around various countries in SE Asia.

I'm a straight-forward conservative sort of guy...some might say a bit boring. I'm not a conspiracy theorist as such but I do tend to keep an open mind on just about everything these days. I'm not gonna get political but I will say I do fear the EU Superstate, the New World Order etc. My concerns about survival are many and varied, namely increasing lawlessness of society, peak oil, overpopulation and its associated problems in times of food/power shortages etc.

I know extremely little about outdoor survival. Despite my background, I've never been hunting...which is why I'm on here. My ultimate survival goal would be a defendable underground bunker.

Just a few lines to introduce myself. I live down in the West Country, a great part of the country with lots of rural / secluded spots (not to mention lots of holiday homes that are empty 6 months of the year) if you ever need to bug out. I've been gradually building up stocks of food, kit, and knowledge for the last 3 -4 years (nowhere near enough though) as although I haven't a clue what is going to happen, i do know that things can't continue the way they are going at the moment.

I'm married and the missus is gradually coming on board with the prepping thing although her eyes roll when I come home with yet another lamp/tray of beans/arrows etc etc

I dont tend to "do" forums much as I like to keep things quiet but on the other hand, making contact and sharing ideas with like minded people can only help in the long run. Also, if things ever went totally fubar you stand a much better chance in a small group than you would on your own so I will try to contribute where I can

Anyway, enough waffling, there looks to be plenty to read so I'm off to have a look around

Not just the big stuff I'm looking at anymore though. I've had the rug pulled out from me twice this year so far. Rode my wife's illness in Spring pretty well, managed to look after the kids and keep working. She's back at work now. I hadn't expected the 'emergency' to come in such a guise though! Then in June it was my turn to get hospitalised. Am now out of work (and therefore no pay as I'm self-employed) probably for the rest of the year. Thank goodness we'd prepped plenty food and savings to help tide us over!

I'm here to gain more knowledge, share what I know and hopefully make some friends. I'm of the opinion that me and my folks couldn't make it alone if TSHTF big time so I'm looking for local like minds for future planning/alliances. Hope to find these through here and local Transitioners.

Afternoon all,

After being reminded that I haven't posted an intro (Apologies DV!) I thought I should at least make an intro posting!

I'm new to the prepping scene, I was pointed in this direction from another UK based site after lurking around some of the USA centric sites. I'm reasonably active on the other board, and want to gather as much info as I can, and contribute where I can too.

Anyhoo, seems like you guys have a good site here, with a whole bunch of resources and useful information. Hope I can contribute in any way I can!

I'm quite new to consciously prepping, but having been naturally doing it for a while I guess!
I live in Hampshire, in a small town thats pretty rural, and I own a Land Rover defender (not nearly as prepped as some on here though!)
